Boeing 747 Tail #N911NA:
Built by The Boeing Company, this shuttle vehicle transport carrier is one of two that ferried the Space Shuttles to and from destinations, and is on loan from NASA Armstrong.  The aircraft was extensively modified by Boeing in 1976. This shuttle carrier was retired on February 8, 2012 after its final mission to the Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility in Palmdale, California, and will be used as a source of parts for NASA’s Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). It is currently on loan for display to Joe Davies Heritage Airpark.

Info: Nikon D7000, Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 at 11mm, 111 minutes long exposure in total. I stacked 37 photos of 3 minutes each at f/8, ISO 200 3700K using Photoshop CS6.  2015-05-02. Light painting with a Protomachine LED2.
Location: Joe Davies Heritage Airpark, Palmdale, CA USA

The Joe Davies Heritage Airpark in Palmdale, CA showcases a collection of aircraft flown, tested, designed, produced or modified at U.S. Air Force Plant 42, a source of pride and prestige for the city. The airpark was rededicated in Joe’s name in February 2008 in recognition of his tenure as commander of Plant 42, his service as a Palmdale City Councilman, and his role as commissioner on Palmdale’s Aviation and Aerospace Commission. The airpark displays aerospace, military, and civilian aircraft. I feel grateful and honored to have been granted access at night to photograph these magnificent planes.
