Molino De Viento De Las Estrellas-Joshua Tree National Park Under The Starry Skies!

Molino De Viento De Las Estrellas (7633)

Joshua Tree National Park, CA is my spiritual home for night photography, so every summer, I try to visit at least once to photograph the Milky Way. I used a Pinout remote controller/app to set and trigger the camera. You totally can share this using the FB share button.

Soledad – Joshua Tree National Park At Night – Milky Way

Soledad (7722)

I thought I’d share a photo from last night, a beautiful desert night. Several of us from Southern California stuffed ourselves with pizza at Pie For The People and then photographed the Milky Way in Joshua Tree National Park, CA until about 4 am. By that time, I was famished again. I went through Casteñeda’s drive-through on the way back. Why am I still so skinny?

I illuminated the lonely, interestingly-shaped Joshua Tree with a hand-held ProtoMachines LED2 flashlight while the shutter was open on my tripod-mounted camera. I used a Pinout remote controller/app to set and trigger the camera. And here, we’re giving the oft-neglected northern part of the Milky Way some love. You totally can share this using the FB share button.

Arch Rock, Joshua Tree National Park: Long Exposure Night Photo with Light Painting

 The magical northern part of the Milky Way over Arch Rock, Joshua Tree National Park, California, USA. I light painted the arch, illuminating this with a ProtoMachines LLC LED2 flashlight. But there were other flashlights illuminating the arch as well. The one on the side and the red light were actually done by other people exploring the arch. This was originally a test shot, but I decided I liked the exploratory lights on the arch and went with this. I hope you like it as well.

 Singing Beneath The Stars (4504)

“I caught the happy virus last night
When I was out singing beneath the stars.
It is remarkably contagious –
So kiss me.”
~ Hafiz

The summer Milky Way in Joshua Tree National Park, CA USA.

This is a real photo taken at night. I set my tripod-mounted camera to a long exposure, making the camera much more sensitive to light than our eyes. This is why this photo seems brighter than what we might see at night. It is not due to post-processing. When the photo is a long exposure photo, the sky will appear brighter, making the blue more apparent. I illuminated the Joshua Trees with a hand-held ProtoMachines LED2 flashlight. This is not a post-processing creation. No pixels were harmed during the creation of this photo. 😀

I am fascinated with how a single long exposure photo can show cumulative effects of light in a single image. Thank you for reading this and looking at the image. -Ken

Another fun mile-long walk in the dark of night across the desert to photograph this area, with some fascinating carved rocks left by a former miner and rancher in the 1920s. I am grateful to my handy GPS, and not so grateful for the cactus that nailed me on the return trip. 😀

John Samuelson was a miner and rancher for the Keys Ranch. In the 1920s, he built a cabin and began carving messages into the rocks nearby in what is now Joshua Tree National Park. He eventually moved to Los Angeles with his wife, where he then killed two people in Compton. He was declared insane, but later escaped from the hospital. Illuminated by a ProtoMachines LED2 flashlight and a full moon. 251 second exposure. The photo shows the movement of the stars over a long period of time, created by the movement of the earth. This is not a post-processing creation. No pixels were harmed during the creation of this photo. 😀

There are eight rocks with carvings on this hill. Yes, I found all eight.

~~~and now, my horrible Spanish!~~~
Otra diversión a pie por 2 km de largo en la oscuridad de la noche a través del desierto para fotografiar esta área, con algunas rocas talladas fascinantes dejados por un antiguo minero y ganadero en la década de 1920s. Agradezco a mi GPS, y no tan agradecido por los cactus que me clavó en el viaje de regreso. 😀
Hay ocho rocas que tienen tallas en esta colina. Sí, he encontrado todo.
Star Trails at the OK Corral (4330)
Cowboy up! It’s Pioneertown, California, began as a Wild West motion picture set in the 1940s, with Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and others among the original developers and investors. The set was designed for the actors to live while using their homes in the movie. The Cisco Kid and many other Westerns were filmed here. Saloons, jails, banks, all the good stuff you need for a Western town. I illuminated the scene while the camera shutter was open with a hand-held Protomachines LED2 flashlight. The circular star trails were created by the very long e 29 minute total exposure, created by the rotation of the earth.
